Website Apology

To all new and returning visitors to the site, we apologise for the on-going provisional state of our website. As long promised, we are in the throes of re-designing the site and when this bears fruit we hope it will be more user friendly and more regularly updated. Please bear with us.

Introduction

The Woodbridge Shufflers are a small friendly running club with approximately 60 members formed in 1981. We cater for runners, joggers and even shufflers! We welcome senior and veteran runners of all standards for short or long runs in a friendly club atmosphere.

We host two events a year: The Woodbridge Round the Town Charity 10km road race in May and a cross country event in the winter, which forms part of the suffolk winter cross country league. Annual membership subscriptions are currently £15.00 for adults and £5 for full-time students. Click here to download a membership form

The club enjoys a close relationship with the Framlingham Flyers. During the winter the Woodbridge Shufflers and the Framlingham Flyers field a composite team in the Suffolk Winter Cross Country League. The shufflers also regularly compete in relays and road races throughout the year, both locally and nationally, including the Flora London Marathon.

Woodbridge 10k Round-the Town and Junior Run entry process 2010

As many are aware, these races have proved increasingly popular and we always fill up our allowed number of entries very quickly. This inevitably leads to several disappointed runners. We are sorry about this but there is little that we can do short of completely re-designing the event. This has been discussed on several occasions but we have concluded that it would be too detrimental to the character of the races.

In these circumstances, we are aware of the need to have as fair an entry process as possible, so it is worth describing how it works.

Firstly, though this has been the case for some years, and though it is clearly stated on the entry form, it should be emphasised that there are absolutely no entries on the day of the race. Unfortunately, there are still one or two who have had to be turned away.

As of 2010, we still do not have an automatic on-line entry form, though this will be a goal for the future. Entry is via a printed form obtained either from the Entries Secretary, one of the outlets we give printed forms to, or from a downloaded copy of the form from the website.

The entry form will be available from January 1st 2010.

Although in the past we have operated a waiting list system, please note that this year (2010) there will be no waiting list in operation, except in one specific circumstance (see below). This means that runners obtaining a place will not be refunded their entry fee if they are unable to run on the day, whatever the reason. Money obtained in this way will all be added to the charities donation fund. Though this may seem somewhat harsh, it is simply too onerous a task to administer a refunds scheme, and in any case no-refunds is the practice in most races these days.

The entry process is on an open first-come, first-served basis. There are no reserved places or queue jumping for friends, special runners, club members, Woodbridge residents, teams or groups – with one exception. As an inducement to attract sponsors we offer them each a group of 10 reserved places – for which they have to pay as normal – but which will be ring-fenced up until February 16th. This will allow them to enter a team if they wish. After this date, the places become available to individual applicants. If the full allocation of places (730 and 170 for the 10k and Junior Run respectively) has been issued by that time, any unused sponsor places will be given to the first corresponding number of unsuccessful applicants to have missed the cut.

Entries can be posted or delivered by hand to the Entries Secretary. All entries will be processed in date order as received. There will be no acknowledgement of receipt. However, we will endeavour to post on the website lists of names of runners in the race as the places get taken up.

David Miller’s historic 200th career win
Congratulations to David Miller on achieving .an astonishing 200th career win on 11th April 2009 in the Lake District. David has been a club member for 15 years and won his first road race in 1997. In 2003, he reached the milestone of 100 wins and has now gone on to double that, a feat quite unprecedented in Suffolk. He has won 42 Senior County Titles including 25 Suffolk County Championship Golds on the road, track and cross-country and a further 17 County and Inter-County League and Series Titles, including the East Anglian Cross-Country League twice, and not forgetting his National Title at the Cross-Country League Final at Bramcote Park in Nottingham in 2002. He has also set 45 course records around East Anglia. In recognition of his achievement, David has been made a Life Member of Woodbridge Shufflers and a local artist has been commissioned to produce a watercolour of a scene at Minsmere, one of David’s favourite places.

Suffolk Winter Series: Woodbridge Cross-country 11.00 a.m. Sunday December 6th 2009

The Woodbridge x-country this year is again over the new course and new venue introduced last year..

The venue is Sutton Village Hall   approximately 3 miles from Woodbridge.      The village hall is on the southern edge of the village . For those from far afield, leave the A12 at the Orford roundabout (first Woodbridge roundabout if coming from the north, third if coming from the south)  taking the A1152 east down the hill to the Melton traffic lights. Straight on over level crossing to mini roundabout, fork right on Bawdsey/Shottisham Road (B1083) to Sutton following  Runner signs.

There is ample parking.

The junior and senior races are run over the same basic course, which is mixed terrain and entirely off-road. The distances are approx. 1.8 mile  and 5.3 miles respectively. Some sections are quite sandy. If there has been no rain recently the surface can be quite soft.

The junior and senior races start at 11.00 and 11.15 respectively.

The start for both races is approximately 500m. from the Hall. The finish for both races is on the field next to the hall.

There is good space for changing in the hall, along with other facilities, but there are no showers.

Entries are as usual via affiliated clubs only.
